Building Experience Summary

The Old U.S. Mint offers a multitude of opportunities to explore its treasures and those of the San Francisco Bay Area's rich culture and heritage, including:

Exhibits on the History of San Francisco & Bay Area (20,000 square feet)
Explore the region's key development periods through a series of immersive and dynamic exhibits that build a foundation for understanding the diverse and innovative history of the Bay Area. Repeat visits will be required to discover all of the area's rich heritage.

Visitor's Information Center (4,000 square feet)
Depart the Mint with an orientation of what San Francisco and the region have to offer. Seasonally changing interpretative exhibits will complement the themed history exhibits. Using new personalization tools, visitors will discover what is relevant to them, where they can go to experience it and how to get there.

Interactive Learning Experience (8,500 square feet)
Touch, capture and play with history in a laboratory-like center brimming with interactive programs and exhibits such as a StoryLab, Innovations Hall and Prediction theatre.

Local Culture, Food, and Retail (8,700 square feet)
Discover the stories behind the food, wine and merchandise available at discreet dining opportunities (e.g. café, wine bar, etc.) and authentic cultural retail stations. Slow food to go will be available for tourists as they embark on their various journeys. Products will rotate frequently making each visit unique.

Historic U.S. Treasury Vaults (4,000 square feet)
Immerse yourself in historic rooms dating from 1874, where the nation's gold and silver wealth was stored for more than half a century. Complementary exhibits will expand on the Gold Rush story and its connection to the history of American money.

Contextual Landscaping (10,000 square feet)
Step into proposed landscapes that function as outdoor galleries on the natural ecology of the Bay. They will also be part of the sustainable design for the building.
