Gateway to San Francisco and the greater Bay Area

The Mint has an opportunity to be a major "front door" to the San Francisco Bay Area - to provide an exciting orientation to the impressive history of this region and to the rich array of authentic cultural experiences available.

  • A proposed new concept for a San Francisco Visitor's Information Center that will include seasonal interpretative exhibits, customized tourist related services (e.g., on demand travel guides), and advice in more than 12 languages.
  • Dynamic Dining and Retail experiences on the vault floor will showcase products from the Bay Area's finest purveyors - both new and old - on a rotating basis. Multiple "slow food" meals will be available to go as you embark on your journey.
  • Upon leaving the Mint visitors will be able to chose from more than 100 Historical and Cultural Threads, organized by historical era, cultural identity or subject matter, and create a personalized itinerary for whatever length of time they have to discover and experience the region.
  • Various walking and motorized excursions will start from Mint Plaza offering exceptional Guided Tour Experiences of the City and various part of the Bay.
A smart phone platform will deliver additional content layers, enabling visitors to customize itineraries to meet their personal areas of interest both inside and out of the Mint building.
