Introduction
San Francisco is one of the few major cities in the U.S. without a major institution dedicated to its history and culture. The Mint Project will fill a gap in the city's cultural landscape and give the Bay Area a truly innovative 21st century learning center dedicated to its people, achievements and global impact.The Mint Project will create a new kind of cultural attraction that integrates dynamic exhibits on the history of the region with an interpretative visitor center and rotating cultural retail from the region.
Our Vision...
- Honor the Men and Women who made San Francisco and the Bay Area what it is today;
- Makes history meaningful by connecting the value and relevance of history with our daily lives;
- Establish the Mint as a Gateway to the city and region providing an orientation to the Bay Area's rich cultural heritage;
- Invite all to contribute and share their own perspectives and stories.
Where...
What better place to house this major new concept than in one of the most important National Historic Landmark buildings in downtown San Francisco - the Old United States Mint.Make it Green...
Our preservation will not just restore the building. We aim to make the Old Mint the most advanced environmentally aware historic restoration.
The Mint Project will transform this 19th century treasure into a 21st century mixed-use cultural center dedicated to the residents and visitors of the Bay area.
